Hand Hewn

Hand hewn beam in my cellar. I had to crawl over the washing machine and squeeze in behind the dryer to get up close...nasty cobwebs everywhere up there on the ceiling!

This is one of the beams original to the house. The vertical lines are the axe marks made by the builder almost 300 hundred years ago, and the brown marks are where the old square-head nails have ruined the wood over time.

I may try this again another day, after spiders are gone!

What a nice study in texture and light. I bet your house has some fascinating history and some great stories to tell...if the walls could talk! :)

What storys your house must hold in its walls. Nice texture in the shot as well. I'd say the crawl was worth the shot.

A little piece of history where you don't always think of looking. :)

Nice close-up view of 300 yrs ago. I love the texture and your description added a great touch. Great Job!

I have family that lives in RI but I have never made it up there. I bet it is a beautiful place.

Great texture in this shot, imagine the stories those beams could tell, I used to live in an old colonial from the 1800's so I can relate. Btw, dont wait for the spider / web to clear, go get a pic of it!!!!

Beautiful wood textures shot! Shoot the spiders too - they might also show some nice textures.

Great shot. Love the textures. I'm going to have to disagree with mike and linda though.. no reason to get up close and personal with the spiders. Ewww! :P

Spiders make good macros!

These bits and pieces of your house that you are giving me are forcing me to conjure up my own ideas of what the whole thing looks like. You have since lost the Little House on the Prairie apron though.
