I used to know what the name of this was. It looks like spit, but it's really some kind of egg sac for some stupid bug I'll probably wind up killing in my basement later this summer.

It's not really an egg sac. It's the way a Spittle Bug protects itself. It needs to stay wet or it will dry up and die. I've never seen a Spittle Bug because they're always covered in spit! LOL
